Uplifting the farming community

Butakament is actively working to reverse urban migration's negative impact in Oro Land. Through a partnership with the Oro Development Union USA, we've supported the successful relocation of approximately 200 farmers now dedicated to full-time farming.

As climate change intensifies conflicts between cattle herding communities and local farmers in Nigeria, external forces exploit these tensions to create widespread insecurity. To counter this, the ODU farming scheme, backed by Butakament, is actively increasing community security. By implementing efficient land-use strategies that harness the strength of collective interest, the initiative is proving highly effective in stabilizing these vulnerable areas.

In Nigeria, as many as 53.4% of 15- to 24-year-olds were unemployed, and 37.2% of 25- to 34-year-olds. A significant number of these Nigerian youths (60%) have considered emigrating, primarily to find jobs and escape economic hardship.   Traditional farming does not appeal to many youths, therefore Butakament joins the movement to introduce modern, mechanized, and technology-driven agriculture 

Recognizing the persistent vulnerability of women in Africa's poor farming communities, Butakament supports the Oro Development Union USA  in it's  strategic pivot to empower rural women by increasing their involvement in the more lucrative segments of the agricultural value chain.
